Since 2010 Mr. Olympia was completely dominated by Phil Heath a wonderful who imposed himself as the best ever in this port, today the reality has changed because a great contender bodybuilder has been crowned Mr. Olympia 2018 his name is Shawn Rhoden.
During another face to face final, Shawn Rhoden defeated the seven-time defending champion and grab definitely the 2018 title on a Saturday night in Las Vegas by an amazing performance as people never seen before in a bodybuilding championship final ever.
To understand what it mean for Shawn Rhoden to become Mr. Olympia 2018, I should take you back to his journey toward this final rewards to be crowned Mr. Olympa 2018, because everything didn’t start boom like that to make 43 years old man become run the biggest bodybuilding title and broke the record and tabu of age matter in this sport.
Shawn Rhoden as know as “Flexatron”, or the “Jamaican Muscle Machine” was born April 2, 1975, in the Caribbean Island names Jamaica, a land well known for his music reggae, his domination in atheism and a niche for great soccer players.
Besides all those choice Shawn Rhoden decided as a Jamaican American to become an IFBB professional bodybuilder. A choice that today made him step in the current reigning Mr. Olympia championship battle arena and winner finally the 2018 Mr. Olympia after defeating seven-time Mr. Olympia champion Phil Heath.
To be today at this level of his performance Shawn Rhode come fare on this journey born in Jamaica, Rhoden immigrated to the United States in 1990 and land in the rea state of Maryland to pursue his American Dream. An experience that pushes him through up and down especially a period of alcohol addiction following his father passed away in 2002. Hopefully, he overcame this dark period of his life with the help of a friend Lenore Carroll.
As any Caribean native Shawn Rhoden was an aspiring soccer player in his early teens, but rapidly he decided to switch for bodybuilding in 1992, inspired by a former Mr. Universe Yohnnie Shambourger fonder of Yohnnex Sports, Incorporated (YSI) an organization that conducts training programs and presents events to educate and support the general public on the benefits of living a healthier lifestyle for athletes to understand that a “bigger and stronger” body can be accomplished without the use of drugs.
Under the influence of his mentor, Shawn Rhoden started an amateur career interrupted with many injuries and alcohol dependency, nevertheless, he won his IFBB Pro card by 2010. Ever since he got his eyes on the ultimate price win the title of Mr. Olympia one day as his mentor did.
He ranked 11th at the 2011 Mr. Olympia chasing goal for his debut at this type of event, a year late he got 3rd at the 2012 Mr. Olympia, he started to believe he can make it one day and the following year he dropped to 4th at the 2013 Mr. Olympia competition.
People said he will never make it, they trash talking about him because Shawn Rhoden has changed his living style spending more time with his family, re-evaluated himself and his working ethic because more than ever he wants to win the Mr. Olympia title for there reinvent himself with drastic workout training with an intense preparation style. He became a monster at the gym hi believe that he will not only win the competition but a got a duty to break the dynasty championship of Phil Heath because this beat him so many times during so many years at the same competition.
During two years he studied his opponent, and see what made him a great athlete and more than that he analyzed his body structure to see what he should do overcome the situation. Shawn Rhoden put himself on a mission to build his body in a manner that nobody will be able to beat anymore, in 2018, Shawn Rhoden became the new Mr. Olympia replacing Phil Heath. He is the oldest bodybuilder to win the title, at the age of 43, the second being Chris Dickerson.
When you believe in yourself and you trained your mind and body for victory by taking the appropriate action necessary you will succeed the time factor is irrelevant if you decide to never give and polishing your craft nonstop, as the leitmotiv of this website said ” Persistence + Discipline = Success”.
Shawn Rhoden was casing a Mr. Olympia title for 8 years when he finally gets there this Saturday this what comes with this accomplishment in addition of his champion Mr. Olympia 2018 winner as bonus rewards:
- He breaking to breaking Phil Heath run of dominance in this sport his name will never forget he be remembered not only for Mr. Olympia 2018 but also for Heath’s record breaker
- Rhoden earned a $675,000 payout, the largest in the 53-year history of the Mr. Olympia competition.
- Rhoden is dream chaser, he also beat the record-tying eighth consecutive win in the competition.
- He is the oldest bodybuilder to win a Mr. Olympian title at the age of 43 years old. Chris Dickerson was the same age when he came out on top in 1982.
- Shawn Rhoden is a survivor because he was forced to withdraw from the Arnold Classic in March and went straight to intensive care to quote him use his exact words: ” Not only did I have the horrible flu going around but my hemoglobin level was at 4 (should be around 14). I lost a lot of blood due to two ulcers bleeding into my intestine over a period of time. I was given 6 blood transfusions that brought my body back to levels where my body could reproduce enough blood on its own to normal levels. Since it is so close to the Arnold, I am disappointed that I must announce that I will not be competing in this years Arnold Classic 2018.”
Now Shawn Rhoden is the new Mr. Olympia 2018, and he is also on the top of his shape ever, his body condition is amazing, by high definition lines all around plus an impeccable symmetry made mister perfect for this competition this year, what I am saying in this competition it is usual to winner one title comeback for a second the following year. I believe history can repeat himself with Shawn Rhoden next year. There is no reason to do not think about it this way!
After all, Shawn Rhoden never tired before to fight for this first title and brake record why should he stop there and not reaching for more, I believe he will because he knows the way now the become a Mr. Olympia winner and the hard work and the sacrifice he should stand on the same podium next year to repeat it for a second title.
